Abstract
This chapter explores culturally competent practice in the field of child maltreatment, including essential vocabulary and concepts such as cultural humility, microaggressions, and intersectionality. It suggests that an ecosystemic framework offers the best model for understanding the multiple influences on child abuse and avenues for intervention. Finally, it provides tips for approaching diverse families in fairer and kinder ways, to help them avoid or recover from child abuse and neglect.
