Latino neuropsychology
Definition
Hispanic/Latino neuropsychology is an evolving field that focuses on the culturally and linguistically competent practice and science of neuropsychology with individuals who have a Hispanic/Latino background, regardless of their language and/or country of residence (e.g., United States, Mexico, Spain, Colombia). Hispanics/Latinos are a heterogeneous group of individuals who have various ethnic/racial backgrounds, language dialect and proficiency, socioeconomic status, educational attainment and quality, religion, immigration and acculturation status, and country of origin (Salinas et al. 2016). The terms Hispanic/Latino are typically used for people living in the United States who were born in or trace their family roots to a Spanish-speaking Latin American country or Spain (Pontón and Ardila 1999).
