Definition
Dermatome is the area of the skin supplied by a spinal sensory nerve root. Since the nerve roots come in pairs, the dermatome on one side of the body is a mirror image of the other (see Fig. 1). The numbers in figure refer to the level at which the nerve roots enter the spinal vertebrae.
