The American Psychological Association (APA) Division 22 – Rehabilitation Psychology is composed of 1164 psychologists (as of December, 2017) who provide health services, teach, manage rehabilitation programs, conduct research, and perform other professional activities. They work in hospitals and clinics, in independent practice, in other human service settings, and in universities and colleges.

Major Areas or Mission Statement

The Division of Rehabilitation Psychology works to unite psychologists and others interested in the prevention and rehabilitation of disability and chronic illness. Rehabilitation Psychology practice is a specialty within the domain of professional healthcare psychology, which applies psychological knowledge and skills on behalf of individuals with disabilities and chronic health conditions in order to maximize their health and welfare, independence and choice, functional abilities, and social role participation.
