General Description
The PIAT-R (Markwardt 1989) is an individually administered test of academic achievement normed on a stratified sample of over 1500 individuals in grades K to 12, consistent with the 1985 US census. A 1998 normative update of the PIAT-R (PIAT-R-NU; Markwardt 1998) was conducted in concert with three other individually administered instruments (i.e., the Kaufman Test of Educational Achievement, KeyMath-Revised, and Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests-Revised). The update involved the use of special norming, linking, and equating procedures across the four instruments. As a part of this norming strategy, a subsample of 749 individuals of ages 5–22 years had the full PIAT-R administered to them, but each PIAT-R subtest was normed on a larger sample of between 1200 and 2800 examinees. The normative update was stratified to be representative of the 1994 US census.
