Definition
Remedial education requires teachers to provide direct evidence-based instruction to clarify skills or concepts with which students are struggling.
Current Knowledge
Appropriate education helps students acquire skills and master concepts that will be useful throughout life. When instruction fails to enable learning, two approaches can be used: remedial education approaches and/or compensatory education approaches (see Compensatory Education Approach). Remediation is used when students do not currently demonstrate mastery of a skill or ability, but still possess the ability to master the concept. Remedial education requires teachers to provide direct evidence-based instruction to clarify skills or concepts with which students are struggling.
