Definition
Feeding and eating disorders are a group of diagnoses in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th ed.; DSM-5; American Psychiatric Association 2013) that includes the following characteristics: persistent disturbance of eating or related behaviors, altered consumption or absorption of food, and significant impairments in health or psychosocial functioning. Report of eating-related symptoms often resembles those reported in individuals with substance use disorders.
