Abstract

Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is a non-invasive precursor of invasive breast cancer. Due to the introduction of mammography screening in many countries, its detection rate has increased considerably. Adjuvant whole-breast radiotherapy is highly efficient in reducing the risk of ipsilateral invasive and non-invasive recurrences without a benefit in overall survival. This chapter discusses the relevant literature regarding the interdisciplinary management of DCIS as well as the role of radiotherapy and recent developments such as hypofractionation, boost irradiation and accelerated partial breast irradiation.
