Definition
Building and fire codes are regulations, ordinances, and laws that govern the design, construction, and alteration of buildings. Both codes and standards are comprehensive sets of recommended language or design procedures created by a consensus standards development organization, or by state or national governments. While codes tend to cover broader aspects of exposure to fire, standards tend to focus on more narrow components of exposure to fire. Here, codes and standards will be used interchangeably. Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) communities exists where humans and their development meet or intermix with wildland fuel (Federal Register 2001). For this contribution, WUI includes the classic interface, mixed interface, occluded interface, and the intermix. WUI building...
