K. Daniel O’Leary, Ph.D. (1940 –)

Introduction

K. Daniel O’Leary has made important contributions to the study of behavioral therapy with children and in the areas of couple therapy for depression and intimate partner violence. Dr. O’Leary has published over 300 journal articles or chapters and 13 books. He has been cited nearly 30,000 times and was listed among the top 100 most cited psychologists in 1978 (American Psychologist 1978).

Career

K. Daniel O’Leary, currently a distinguished professor for Psychology at Stony Brook University, received his B.A. from Penn State University and his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana (1967). He joined the faculty at Stony Brook University directly after completing his doctoral studies and has remained there for his entire career.
