Introduction
In the eating disorders literature, a number of terms have been used to describe family therapy with an eating disorders focus, e.g., Maudsley family therapy, Maudsley model therapy, or family-based treatment. What makes this treatment distinct is that the family therapy addresses a very specific problem, i.e., an eating disorder, and does this by utilizing the family as the most valuable resource in treatment to bring about early change in eating behaviors before addressing broader issues of individual and family life cycle development.
