Introduction

Parent management training (PMT) is an approach to treating child disruptive behaviors by training caregivers to directly alter such behaviors. PMT was initially developed in the 1960s by child psychologists who studied changing children’s disruptive behaviors by intervening to change caregiver behaviors (Forehand et al. 2013). It is now a key treatment approach found to be effective in treating children with various disruptive behaviors (Michelson et al. 2013). The aims of PMT are to (1) improve parent management skills and competence in dealing with child behavior problems, (2) increase knowledge on causes of defiant behavior, (3) decrease or eliminate a child’s disruptive or inappropriate behaviors, (4) increase child prosocial behavior and compliance to commands and rules, and (5) correct maladaptive parent-child interactions, improving family...
