Abstract
The entities within the unique category of necrobiotic disorders have granuloma formation associated with necrobiosis as their common feature. “Necrobiosis” is generally defined as “cell death,” but in practical terms, it is translated to an amorphous appearance of affected tissues on microscopic examination. It has a close resemblance to another amorphous form of cell death, caseous necrosis, but the latter is more commonly applied to infectious diseases, particularly those lesions induced by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In the conditions addressed in this chapter, infectious factors are not included. Instead, entities such as disorders secondary to small cutaneous vessels’ involvement (granuloma annulare and rheumatoid nodule) or alterations in keratin and sebum (lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei) are included.
