Abstract
Skin hyperpigmentation is a common symptom of many cutaneous as well as systemic diseases. Most commonly encountered in dermatology includes facial melanosis, lentigines, ephelides, endocrine, and drug-induced pigmentation. Etiology is mostly unknown but factors such as ultraviolet radiation in facial melanosis, and allergens in Riehl’s melanosis are postulated. Diagnosis is mostly clinical. The mainstay of treatment remains photoprotection with hypopigmenting agents, chemical peels, and lasers.
