Definition
Gastritis cystica polyposa is defined as a polypoid lesion or mass in the gastric wall, most often around a gastroenterostomy site, containing elongated gastric foveolae and cystically dilated glands extending into the muscularis mucosa and submucosa. In literature, similar findings are described under several synonymic terms. Gastritis cystica polyposa or profunda is the most commonly used name for this disorder. The lesion is better defined as “polyposa” when an intraluminal polyp is present and “profunda” when the bulk of the lesion is located in the wall of the stomach.
Gastritis cystica polyposa is considered to be a mucosal prolapsed condition caused by several factors, such as chronic inflammation, ischemia, presence of foreign material, and prior gastric surgery. Previous partial gastrectomy can lead to mucosal damage in the remnant...
