Abstract

Detergent workers usually work in factories where automated manufacturing processes are the rule. Direct large-scale skin exposure to ingredients in the manufacturing industry is therefore rarely seen.

A large range of substances in the manufacturing processes may contribute to cases of skin disease due to irritation or allergy (immediate or delayed-type sensitization). Enzymes which are widely used in the detergent industry often cause respiratory allergies but generally do not lead to skin problems.

Occupational skin diseases in the detergent industry are rare and can usually be prevented.
