Definition
The day-to-day implementation of government policies, typically enacted via statute or regulation, by frontline public servants, often on a case-by-case basis and in contact with the public and employing discretion. Also, the government bureaucracies responsible for the day-to-day implementation of policies. In addition, the study thereof.
Introduction
Governments are responsible for protecting the public, providing mandated goods and services and raising revenues to perform these activities. In carrying out these responsibilities, some government bureaucracies transact directly with organizations and individuals. Generally, within these bureaucracies the highest levels focus on making policy, while the lowest levels concentrate on implementing it.
