Definition
Retirement planning involves preparation made by an individual to face life in retirement after the individual leaves employment. This encompasses decisions and actions taken to ensure the availability of sufficient resources to support life after the individual leaves formal employment. Civil servants represent all individuals who are employed by the government. Preparedness to retire shows the adequacy of skills an employee has in taking measures to transit into life in retirement (Nyoro and Otieno 2016).

A report by World Health Organization (2018) showed that global life expectancy has increased gradually over the years from an average of 66.5 years in 2000 to an average of 72.0 years in 2016.
