Definition
Financial reforms represent government efforts that aim to rationalize public spending and boost revenues in order to achieve financial stability and economic growth and improve the public sector efficiency.
Introduction
Just as many other countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) have done, Jordan has put financial reform on high priority as a way to achieve economic development and growth. Jordan implemented fiscal reform for the first time in 1989 following the financial bankruptcy that was triggered by the government’s decisions during the period of 1982–1988. Over the past three decades, several steps have been taken in collaboration with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, to decrease budget deficit and public debt.
