Definition

Organizational citizenship behavior is defined as the behavior that is not an enforceable requirement of the role, does not aim at earning rewards, is not an expressive behavior owning to emotional state, and that in the aggregate promotes the welfare of the individual and organization.

Introduction

The greater scholarly interest in Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) teed off in the early of 1983 when Organ and his colleagues (Smith et al. 1983) first coined the term of “organizational citizenship behavior”. Since then, the literature has increasingly dominated on this topic. Web of Science Core Collection includes more than (800) works on OCB from the period 1980 to 2016.
