Definition

The e-democracy concerns the participation of citizens in policy and decision-making processes through the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs).

Introduction

The participation of citizens in local public life is not a new phenomenon. History is full of examples of people engaged in taking part in collective decisions within a government, a public institution, or a civil society organization. Citizen advisory boards, local citizen committees, parliamentary commissions and mediation, class action, etc., are some examples of organizational forms of public participation in the policy and decision-making processes.

The citizen participation is a process in which people take part in public affairs for exerting influence on policy process and on choices that significantly affect the life of their community (André et al. 2012).
