Introduction

The psychology of leadership is the study of leadership, including topics such as organizational identity, motivation, coordination, performance management, and organization development and change through various psychological models and corresponding approaches to psychological research. These approaches examine variables including individual and group identity, perceptions, and behaviors.

At least two, potentially related, basic models of psychology and leadership are operative within the research. The first explores the psychology of leaders and inquires into how psychological traits or orientations of leaders affect their ability to improve the effectiveness of followers’ or subordinates’ efforts to do their jobs and accomplish their goals/tasks.
