In the digital world of big data, nothing could be more important than information privacy and security. Having effective leadership in this area is key to ensuring that appropriate strategies, priorities, policies, and processes are successfully designed, implemented, and embedded to maximize innovation and minimize the risks arising from the use of information technology (IT). Given recent controversies such as Eric Snowden and the battle between Apple and the FBI, privacy advocates warn that we might be “sleepwalking into a surveillance society” (Greenwald 2013).
