Description
Cutaneous hemangioma, defined in the broadest sense, represents a benign vascular tumor, composed of vascular channels of different sizes, lined by a single layer of endothelial cells. However, in addition to being applied to benign vascular tumors, the expression “hemangioma” has been used also for vascular lesions histogenetically as diverse as reactive vascular proliferations, hamartomas, and malformations. Hemangioma of the skin can either present as a localized lesion or involve several skin segments. The later variant has been designated as angiomatosis.
Hemangioma, defined as above, is one of the most common benign tumors/lesions of the skin that shows predilection for the head and neck area and usually presents during childhood or adolescence.
