Definition
Eosinophilic solid and cystic renal cell carcinoma is a recently described tumor arising in patient with and without tuberous sclerosis characterized by cells with eosinophilic cytoplasm and varying solid and cystic architectural growth (Trpkov et al. 2016).
Clinical Features
Incidence
The tumor is extremely rare, comprising less than 1% of all renal carcinomas.
Age
The tumor typically occurs in adults. However it has been described in young patients (less than 35 years of age).
Sex
The majority of tumors that have been reported occurred in females.
Site
There is no site predilection.
Treatment
Partial or radical nephrectomy is the standard of treatment.
Outcome
The clinical behavior is indolent.
Macroscopy
Grossly, the tumors are well-delineated, tan masses, typically showing solid and macrocystic architecture. In some cases there is a dominant cystic appearance.
