Definition
Myolipoma is a benign lipomatous tumor composed of mature adipose tissue and well-differentiated smooth muscle cells.
Clinical Features
Incidence
Myolipomas are rare with less than 100 cases reported in the literature (Meis and Enzinger 1991; Fukushima et al. 2017).
Age
The median age is approximately 55 years with a relatively broad range (28–94 years) (Meis and Enzinger 1991; Fukushima et al. 2017).
Sex
Females are predominantly affected (F:M approximately 15:1) (Meis and Enzinger 1991; Fukushima et al. 2017).
Site
Myolipomas typically present as a deep-seated mass in the retroperitoneum, abdominal cavity, or pelvis (Meis and Enzinger 1991; Fukushima et al. 2017).
Treatment
Complete excision is curative.
Outcome
These are benign neoplasms with no recurrences reported following complete surgical excision.
