Definition

Prostate cancers with neuroendocrine differentiation include:

  • Usual adenocarcinoma with neuroendocrine differentiation

  • Adenocarcinoma with Paneth cell-like neuroendocrine differentiation

  • Well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor (carcinoid tumor)

  • Small cell neuroendocrine carcinoma

  • Large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma

Clinical Features

  • Incidence

    Depending on the type of prostatic neuroendocrine tumors; 0.5–1% of men with prostate cancer. Autopsy studies of men who have died of castration-resistant prostate cancer (CRPC) have reported the presence of SCC in up to 10–20% of cases (Turbat-Herrera et al. 1988).

    Surgery and/or chemotherapy as with neuroendocrine tumors of other organs
