History of Life
Robert Good (Fig. 1) was born on May 21, 1922 in Crosby, Minnesota, as the son of two teachers. The early death of his father from cancer probably has influenced his further career choices. For his academic training, he went to the University of Minnesota where he obtained his BA degree in 1944 and 3 years later his MD and PhD degree. As an undergraduate, he developed a polio-like illness that left him partially paralyzed and made him wheelchair dependent for some time. In this period his mother wheeled him into his medical school classrooms. For the remainder of his life, he retained a pronounced limp from this period.
