Abstract
A 14-year-old male sustained a bony mallet injury to his left middle finger during football practice. The fragment involved approximately 50% of the distal interphalangeal joint articular surface and was displaced greater than 2 mm. The patient underwent percutaneous pinning using an extension block technique. The pins were removed at 4 weeks, and the patient was allowed to begin range of motion exercises at that time. At 8 weeks, he was noted to have regained full range of motion, and he returned to sports.
