Peter Borkenau was born on October 26, 1949, in Bad Nauheim, Germany. He earned his Diploma in Psychology from Heidelberg University at Heidelberg, Germany, in 1975, and his Ph.D. in personality psychology from Heidelberg University, Germany, in 1982 under the direction of Manfred Amelang.

Professional Career

Peter Borkenau taught at Heidelberg University, Germany, from 1979 to 1983, at Bielefeld University, Germany, from 1983 to 1993, at Jena University, Germany, from 1993 to 1995, and at Martin-Luther University Halle-Wittenberg, Germany, from 1995 to 2015. He retired in 2015, authoring about 150 publications during his career which appeared in outlets such as the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, Journal of Personality, European Journal of Personality, Journal of Research in Personality, and Personality and Individual Differences.
