Early Life and Educational Background

David K. Marcus was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1961. After graduating from the University of Chicago in 1983 with a B.A. in behavioral sciences, he began graduate studies in clinical psychology at Clark University. Dr. Morton Wiener, Marcus’ major professor, instilled in him the importance of considering the social and interpersonal context for understanding apparently dysfunctional or psychopathological behavior. After completing his predoctoral internship at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services at Pennsylvania State University, Marcus received his Ph.D. in 1989 from Clark.

Professional Career

After a 1-year visiting appointment at Holy Cross College, Marcus accepted a tenure-track position at Sam Houston State University (1990–2005), where he helped to develop a clinical psychology doctoral program and served as director of clinical training (DCT).
