Continued endurance for short and long-term goals while facing difficulties or the act of working toward a desired outcome despite having encountered obstacles and challenges.
Athletes around the world were smiling with triumphant expressions when they received their medals at the 2016 Rio Olympics. At press conferences, many athletes would describe their journey to success. Oftentimes, their life stories would include major setbacks prior to the winning moment. What the athletes demonstrate here is consistent perseverance for long-term goals. This entry will provide a brief overview for the psychology of perseverance, which includes how perseverance serves as a predictor to success predictors, contemporary theories that use perseverance as a piece of their puzzle, personality predictors of perseverance, as well as the drawbacks of a pesevere mindset.
