Sapna Cheryan is a faculty member at the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. She is a social psychologist who conducts research on stereotypes, prejudice, identity, and belonging.

Early Life and Educational Background

Sapna Cheryan was born in Urbana, IL, in 1977. She earned her B.A. in American studies and psychology from Northwestern University and a PhD in psychology from Stanford University. Her undergraduate advisor was Galen Bodenhausen, and her graduate advisor was Benoît Monin.

Professional Career

Sapna Cheryan has been on faculty at the University of Washington since 2007. In 2012–2013, she was a visiting scholar at the Russell Sage Foundation in New York City, and in 2016–2017, she was a visiting fellow at the Center for Advanced Studies in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University.
