Atomflot, Federal State Unitary Enterprise (FSUE Atomflot) – joined the state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom in 2008. On 28th August 2008, the management of the nuclear-powered icebreaking fleet was transferred to the FSUE Atomflot, thus creating a unified icebreaking and maintenance complex of the civil nuclear-powered fleet of Russia. The Atomflot activity is based on the goals to provide reliable and effective ice breaking transportation in the Russian Arctic, based on the safety usage of nuclear powered vessels. Following this aim, the enterprise fulfills the following tasks: the ice pilotage of vessels on the Northern Sea Route (NSR) and to the freezing ports of Russia; the container shipping by the nuclear-powered lighter Sevmorput; the support by expeditionary, scientific, and research works aimed at studying hydro-meteorological conditions of seas, mineral, and ore resources of the Arctic shelf adjacent to the Northern coast of Russia; the emergency and rescue ice...
