Arctic and Antarctic Museum (The Russian State Arctic and Antarctic Museum) – created by the decision of the Presidium of the Central Executive Committee in 1930 and the decision of the Main Directorate of the Northern Sea Route (1933). A.A.M. is located in St. Petersburg. It is a unique museum, the exhibitions of which tell the story of the development of the polar regions. The museum was opened in January 1937, The exhibit tell about the voyages of the Russian Pomors in koches – the first Russian Arctic ships – to the islands of Svalbard, Novaya Zemlya, etc. Among the exhibits are a model of a koch and the genuine fragments of vessels found during excavations of a Russian North town of Mangazeya. All the famous expedition to the Arctic are illustrated with diagrams, photographs, documents, and authentic items, including the personal items of R. Amundsen, the products left by the expedition of E. Toll, found on the Taimyr Peninsula, and a flagpole of G.Y. Sedov, discovered on Rudolf...
