Introduction
The MMPI-A (Butcher et al., 1992) is a 478-item self-report measure designed specifically for use with adolescents. It was developed to address a number of concerns regarding the use of the MMPI (Hathaway and McKinley 1943) with adolescents. Archer (2016) outlined four major factors that contributed to the development of the MMPI-A. These areas included a need for contemporary norms, a need for revisions to the item pool (e.g., removing items with content deemed inappropriate for the assessment of adolescents), the need for the creation adolescent-specific scales, and the need to standardize MMPI assessment practices for adolescents. The resulting MMPI-A included a cannot say raw score index, 5 validity scales, 2 additional subscales of the F (infrequency) validity scale, 10 clinical scales, 15 content scales, and 6 supplementary scales.
