Phebe Cramer is Professor of Psychology, emerita, at Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts. She is a personality-developmental-clinical psychologist who conducts research concerning (1) defense mechanisms, (2) narcissism, (3) identity, and (4) longitudinal development.
Early Life and Educational Background
Cramer was born on December 30, 1935 in San Francisco, California. She earned her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley in 1957 and her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from New York University in 1962. She completed her Clinical Internship at Psychiatric Institute, Columbia University Medical Center 1961–1962.
Professional Career
Cramer was Clinical Psychologist at Maimonides Hospital, Brooklyn, NY 1962–1963, and at the Lincoln Center for Psychotherapy 1962–1965.
