Definition

Surgency is a temperament dimension that reflects an individual’s disposition toward positive affect, approach, sociability, high-intensity pleasure, reward seeking, and a high activity level.

This chapter provides an overview of the construct of Surgency. It presents a brief review of the construct itself, measurement methods, changes across development, longitudinal stability, heritability, and brain mechanisms associated with Surgency.
