Definition of WLB

WLB ensures that the hours and intensity of paid work are sufficiently offset by non-work time that allows workers to physically and mentally regenerate as well to participate in family, recreational, and community activities.

Ethics and Work-Life Balance

The notion of work-life balance (WLB) is relatively new in the history of paid labor that began with the Industrial Revolution. Its recent emergence can largely be attributed to a confluence of social, economic, and technological events that have dramatically reshaped the nature of work and social relations, particularly in more advanced economies. The major social impetus, of course, has been the growth of women’s participation in the work force; more particularly, the participation of women who have children.
