Abstract

The purpose of this systematic mapping review of the scholarly literature on transformative learning theory studied directly within the context of educational technology is to present the state of research at the crossroads of these topics at this point in time. The 31 studies meeting selection criteria for full analysis were examined for common themes based on each study’s purpose; definition of transformative learning used; methodology; subjects; aspect of transformative learning studied or measured; aspect of educational technology studied or measured; and findings/conclusions. The systematic, replicable method of the literature search and review is described in detail followed by an analysis of the themes revealed.
