Transference Interpretation in Couples and Family Therapy
Introduction
Interpretation of transference is one of the central technical features of psychoanalysis, as well as dynamic and psychodynamic therapies (Høglend et al. 2006; Levy and Scala 2012; Piper et al. 1993). For over 100 years, the technical use of transference interpretations contrasted against other interpretations has been intensively debated (Høglend et al. 2006). More recent experimental data findings utilizing randomized control trial designs suggest that low and moderate levels of both transference interpretation and transference-focused treatments are highly effective and can lead to structural change or change in social cognitive processing (Levy and Scala 2012).
