A nonprofit scientific association devoted to all studies relative to the physical and mechanical properties of rocks and rock masses and to their applications to engineering
The International Society for Rock Mechanics was founded in Salzburg in 1962. Its foundation is mainly owed to Prof. Leopold Müller who became the first ISRM president.
The Society is a nonprofit scientific association, supported by the fees of the members, by revenues from technical publications, by unrestricting grants, and by other sources of revenue as approved by the board.
Membership of the Society consists of individual members affiliated through national groups, corporate members, and corresponding members. In 2017 the Society has 8,000 members and 61 national groups.
