Abstract
Ugo Benzi, a natural philosopher and a physician, was one of the most brilliant and appreciated professors of medicine of the fifteenth century. He spent much of his life at universities and courts of Northern and Central Italy. He studied philosophy at Florence and Pavia and medicine at Bologna. He began his teaching career at Pavia and died in Ferrara, as a private doctor of Niccolò d’Este. He wrote philosophical commentaries as well as medical treatises; nevertheless at his time he was a high-valued practice physician, sought after by the most important Italian universities and courts.
