Abstract

Camilla Greghetti Erculiani was apothecary with her husband at the spezieria “Alle tre stelle” in Padua. Thanks to her connections with the Paduan network of scholars and students of medicine and philosophy, and with Polish scholars studying in Padua, in 1584 she published her Letters on Natural Philosophy, printed in Krakow. Shortly after the publication of her work, she was accused of heresy by the Paduan Inquisition for some of the ideas expressed in her book, which aimed to demonstrate the natural cause of the biblical Flood.
