Definitions
4-Sets: A conceptual model comprised of four sets of constructs: (1) mindsets, (2) skillsets, (3) toolsets, and (4) datasets. The 4-Sets framework (aka, 4-Sets) is a conceptual model that executives configure. The 4-Sets are used by executives or managers in improving strategic performance through the three-step configuration or sequence of steps including discover, optimize, and test (aka, D-O-T) of their decision-making, choice making, action taking, planning, and strategy tasks (i.e., D-CAPS).
Configure: Putting together, designing and/or arranging parts in specific ways for accomplishing specific purposes. The people who are responsible for configuring the 4-Sets are known herein as “configurers.”
D-CAPS: An acronym that represents decisions, choices, actions, plans, or strategies.
Gaps: The difference between the performance of something and its optimal performance. 4-Sets configurers are tasked with closing gaps.
