Definition

Energy Efficiency refers to a group of practices to improve the use of energy sources, reaching the same results – or even better ones – with lower energy consumption. In higher education institutions, energy efficiency practices have become increasingly common, ranging from small actions aimed at reducing energy waste, to setting up research centers, developing technologies, and making buildings more efficient.

Energy Efficiency and Its Contribution to Sustainable Development

This section presents aspects related to energy efficiency in higher education and discusses its relation to sustainable development. After some introductory topics, the university role is debated, as well as challenges and potentialities. A specific section is dedicated to education and sustainable curriculum. Each section intends to highlight important issues that help defining energy efficiency and its contribution to sustainability in higher education institutions.
