Introduction

The last two decades have witnessed an unprecedented growth of mobile technology. Mobile devices such as cell phones, smartphones, notebooks, eReaders, portable music and video players (such as the iPod), handheld computers, game consoles, and other devices have permeated many facets of our lives (Kukulska-Hulme and Traxler 2008). However, cell phones are the most used of the above devices since they are multifunctional, and they can serve multiple functions including: making calls; surfing the internet; accessing resources; reading books; connecting with others through social media; taking and viewing pictures and videos; and creating, accessing, sharing, and distributing information (Godwin-Jones 2011). The multimedia functionality and its simpler and user-friendly interface make cell phones easier to be used by people who may not have access to or who may be uncomfortable with using other technologies such as desktop computers.
