Description
A system of graben, fissures, and related fractures in linear (straight subparallel) systems that often occur in crosscutting sets. They can be traced for hundreds of kilometers up to perhaps 3,000 km or more (Ernst et al. 2003). Some may be linear on a local scale but actually belong to regional radiating systems (cf. Grosfils and Head 1994; Ernst et al. 2003; Hansen and Olive 2010). Linear lineament systems may be underlain by dikes or have a purely tectonic (extensional) origin.
