Introduction/Background

The caspase recruitment domain (CARD) is a protein-binding module that mediates the assembly of CARD-containing proteins into apoptosis and nuclear factor kappa-light chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kB) pro-inflammatory signaling complexes. Caspase recruitment and oligomerization mediated by adaptor proteins constitute one of multiple mechanisms that help coordinate immunity development, activation, cell migration, and apoptosis.

Function

The CARD domain of CARD11 associates specifically with the CARD domain of B cell lymphoma/leukemia 10 (BCL10), a signaling protein that activates NF-kB through the inhibitor of kappa B (IκB) kinase (IKK) complex.
