Occupational Therapy Evaluation and Treatment

  • Reference work entry
The Pediatric Upper Extremity

Abstract

There are many areas that encompass an occupational therapy evaluation for an adult with an upper extremity condition. Even though the assessment and goals are similar, there are many considerations when evaluating a child. Assessment techniques, standardized assessments, and treatment activities are much different and will require modifications for a child. The physician and therapist’s approach to a child needs creativity and patience for optimal outcomes. The chapter examines modifications to a standard occupational therapy assessment for a child as well as pediatric treatment ideas to maximize outcomes. Common pediatric diagnoses are also discussed.
